Chiwetel Ejiofor as Dectective Bill Mitchell in the Inside Man
Born to Nigerian parents in London’s Forest Gate, is an accomplished stage actor and movie star. He started acting at the age of 13 where he would regularly perform in school plays at Dulwich College in southeast London.
Ejiofor started cutting his teeth into Hollywood when he got casted alongside Morgan Freeman in Steven’s Spielberg’s Amistad. A role which he said he was surprised to get. This lead to some roles in British television, however it was on stage that Ejiofor started making his name with critically acclaimed performances in Romeo and Juliet (as Romeo) and Blue/Orange.
Chiwetel was nominated for several awards for his performances, including the Laurence Olivier Theater Award in 2001 for Best Supporting Act for Blue/Orange, and won the Jack Tinker Award for Most Promising Newcomer at the 2000 London Critics Circle Theatre Awards (Drama) and the London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Outstanding Newcomer in 2000.
It was not long again before he was back again in Hollywood, most notably in Woody Allen’s 2004 file – Melinda and Melinda, as well as taking in role of The Operative in Joss Whedon’s Sci-Fi flick Serenity and Victor Sweet in Four Brothers.
Again strong performances landed Chiwetel a lead role in the 2005 comedy Kinky Boots, where he takes on the role of Lola, a cabaret singer with teams up the son of a wealthy enterprenuer to save his father’s factory.
In 2006 he played along side hollywood legend Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster and Clive Owen in Spike’s Lee smash thriller, the Inside Man, where he played Dectective Bill Mitchell. He again teamed up with Owen in the futuristic thriller Children of Men.
