One of Ghana’s biggest stars, Batman Samini achieved international acclaim when he won the MOBO award for the Best African Act in 2006. His sound has been labeled as ‘Raglife’, which is a fusion of old school highlife, reggae dancehall and hip hop.

Often called Ghana’s answer to dancehall star Buju Banton, is already when known and revered within his country of Ghana. He honed his music skills by sining in the church and then started performing at the age of 17. It was not long before he started to get noticed and after a series of collaborations he landed himself a record deal in 2002. This led to the release of his chart topping debut album Dankwansere, which included the massive single ‘Linda’, which is still a firm favorite with music fans in Ghana.

Batman’s stock continued to rise and he was soon to start performing with the likes of Akon, Beenie Man, Wayne Wonder and Kevin Little. He was soon touring, appearing in the African and European countries including the UK, Italy, Germany and Holland. He was also one of the main attractions in at the official Black Stars (Ghana’s football team) World Cup concerts held during the football mundial event in Germany last year.

Samini hails from the northern part of Ghana, where his name literally mean “Rain God” and this was made even more significant when the self title single from his new album of the same name was first played in Accra in May 2006. It rained for two days non-stop!

Batman Samini is one of the new crop of musicians emerging from the African continent that are fusing well known genres such as reggae and hip hop and fusing them with local music to create an appealing brand of music that hits the cord music fans across the continent and beyond.
