The Black Stars, the national football team of Ghana are one of the most successful African football teams. Ghana has enjoyed great success at youth level, winning the World Under-17 title twice, and finishing second at the World Youth Championship twice.

They have also won the African Nations Cup four times (1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982). making Ghana the second most successful team in the contest's history, together with Cameroon, after Egypt won a fifth title in 2006. The Black Star won FIFA’s most improved team in 2005, having gone through the year undefeated.

Despite all its success, it was not until 2006 in that the Black Stars made their first appearance the FIFA World Cup, which was held in Germany. Their quick passing free flowing football was a hit with the fans and brought them success until they lost out to the Brazil in the second round of the competition.
