Results from the Ghana’s parliamentary elections which took place on the December 7 have shown that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won a slim majority in Parliament. The results declared so far show they have won 113 of the 230 seats.
The other results showed the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) winning 108 seats with other seats declared won by independent candidates ( 4 seats), the People National Convention (2 seats) and the Convention Peoples Party (1 seat). This means with 228 seats declared the opposition now have an unassailable lead in the parliamentary elections.
Analysis of the result showed a strong showing for the NDC in the Greater Accra, Central, Volta and Northern region.
This will come as a boost to Professor John Atta-Mills the NDC Presidential candidate as he prepares for the December 28th Presidential election run-off. In the Presidential elections also held on December 7 neither of the two leading contenders Professor Mills (NDC) or Nana Akufo-Addo (NPP) was able to scale the required threshold of 50% of the popular vote.
