The European Union airspace is now a no-go area for Angolan registered aircraft after the European commission imposed a ban, expressing concerns over failure to improve air safety in Angola. The ban is extension of the blacklisting of TAAG the national flag carrier of Angola. TAAG was banned from flying within the EU in June 2007 when the safety concerns first arose.
In response the Angolan government has fired now the board of TAAG. The Transport Minister Augusto Tomas told the Reuters news agency that “The measures carried out by the government are a direct response to the serious situation that Angola's national flag carrier is going through,"
The ban on Angolan aircraft sees it joining Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Swaziland and the Demorcratic Republic of Congo on the list of African countries whose aircraft carriers are completely banned from the European Union.
