When in 1996 Suzanne Tamim burst on to the music scene as the beautiful and talented winner of the reality TV music talent show it looked like she would have the world at her feet. The show Studio el fan was wildly popular across the Arab world and Middle East and won her legions of fans and admirers across the region from Morocco to Iraq.

The fairy tale was to end in a brutal murder 12 years later, when on the 28th of July her body was found with her throat slit in a Luxury apartment in the upmarket Jumeriah suburbs of Dubai where she lived until her death.

Her murder seemed set to end up as an unresolved murder but for the dogged determination of the Emirati authorities to uncover the guilty parties and this week the Egyptian authorities announced the arrest of billionaire Egyptian property developer Hisham Talaat Moustafa

Moustafa is a member of Egypt’s ruling National Democratic Party and sits in the Shura Council, . Egypt’s upper legislative chambers. Prosecutors are charging Moustafa with paying Moshen El-Sukkary an Egyptian police officer $2m to murder Tamim.

Moustafa who is married was alleged to be Tamim’s former lover is said to have plotted the murder after the singer sought to end their relationship. Prosecutors further allege that El-Sukkarry tracked down Tamim to her luxury Dubai Marina complex where he gained access by posing as a member of her management company before murdering her.

Police were able to use conversations taped by El-Sukkarry to track down Mustafa’s involvement and both El-Sukkarry and Moustafa are now in custody. Both men face the death penalty if found guilty of the crime.

Moustafa is the chairman of Talaat Mustafa groups which operated the Four Season hotel brand in Egypt amongst various other business interests.
