Despite the withdrawal of the opposition candidate, Movement for Democratic Change's Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwean officials have said a run-off presidential election will go ahead.
Mr Tsvangirai said he would quit to curb violence by the ruling party militias, who he says killed 86 of his supporters.
The Movement for Democratic Change's Nelson Chamisa said the ruling Zanu-PF's militias should be disbanded, adding that his party had received no direct approaches from mediators since the announcement.
Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa , who said he had not sent a formal notice yet of Tsvangarai’s withdrawal slammed the announcement as a ruse.
