Russian oil giant, Gazprom, and several other foreign companies, many of them Chinese are pushing to replace Royal Dutch Shell to control Nigeria’s oil fields in the Niger Delta region. The oil fields hold over 10 trillion cubic meters of gas, making it one of the largest gas reserves in the world.
The bid to replace Shell follows the Nigerian government’s decision to award the oil fields to another company after announcing that the oil fields had been abandoned by company for over 15 years. Shell plans to challenge that decision in court.
