Manager of the Tunisian national football team Roger Lemerre is to leave his position after the football federation announced that it will not be renewing his contract when it comes to an end in June this year. The announcement comes after Tunisia exited the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations losing to Cameroon 2-3 at the quarterfinal stage.

Lemerre had been constantly criticised during his reign as the Tunisian Manager for playing a brand of football that obsessively concentrated on the defensive aspects of the game. There were also complaints from the press that Lemerre was unapproachable.

Lemerre appointed in 2002 led Tunisia to its first ever African Cup of Nation victory in 2004 when the Tunisian national team won it at home. Lemerre made history with that victory becoming the first man to win the continental championships on two continents having previously won the European Championship with France in 2000.

The Tunisian press is reporting the coach of Tunisian clubside Etoile du Sahel, Betrand Marchand as current favourite to take over as the manager of the national side.
