The sub zero weather being experienced across much of South Africa looks set to continue according to the South African Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to fall tonight to 0 degrees Celsius in Johannesburg, 2 degrees Celsius in Pretoria, -8 degrees Celsius in Sanderton and -6 degrees Celsius in Bloemfontein.
At least 22 deaths have been reported as a result of the cold snap mostly related to exposure, but there have also have been deaths reported from smoke inhalation as fires are left on to ward off the cold.
The cold weather snap has seen records tumbling with over 54 temperature records being set for lowest maximum and minimum daily temperatures across the country.
The cold snap has also hit farmers hard, as the cold weather hampered farmers from harvesting fresh vegetables and the cold weather also kept buyers at home.
The Latest forecast from the South African Weather forecast says very cold conditions are expected to persist over the northern interior of the Eastern Cape, the south-eastern part of the Northern Cape, eastern part of Free State, Lesotho as well as over the southwestern part of KwaZulu-Natal.
