Delta Airline announces new Ghana route.
One of the largest US airlines, the Atlanta based Delta Airlines has announced a it will start operating non-stop flights from New York to Accra. The airline will fly four times a week, with the maiden flight departing this Sunday to arrive at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra on Monday.
Additionally Delta Airlines has also announced a new route from Atlanta to Johannesburg, South Africa which will have a stop over at Dakar in Senegal. the flights between Johannesburg and Atlanta will be operated daily.
Since the demise of the Ghana Airways in 2005, the number of direct flights between Ghana and the USA had fallen significantly. The entry of Delta Airlines will ease congestion on the route considerably. It is also expected that the newly formed Ghana International Airlines, the new Ghanaian flag carrier will commence flights to the USA in the not too distant future.
The launch of the new routes will be major expansion of Delta Airlines operations in Africa, as it had previously operated largely through its Alliance Partners.
