They seek him here, they seek him there, they seek him everywhere, but have they looked in Namibia. That's the message to the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) who recently indicted the American actor Wesley Snipes on tax fraud charges.
The IRS had issued a warrant for Snipe's arrest and there was some confusion of his current location with some initial reports putting him in Nigeria. Officials at the Namibian Film Commission in Windhoek, the Namibian capital however say Wesley Snipes has been in the country for the filming of the new movie "Gallowwalker" since the beginning of August.
Wesley Snipes is said to be filming on location in Swakopmund, a beach resort town on the coast of Namibia.
Wesley Snipes the star of Hollywood blockbusters such as "White Men Can't Jump", "Blade", "New Jack City" and "Jungle Fever" is wanted by the US authorities to answer questions about claiming up to $12 million in tax refunds.
Namibia has no extradition treaty with the USA and should the matter require legal extradition this may prove to be an obstacle, however previous cases have shown the authorities in Windhoek willing to consider cases on an individual basis should it be required. It is expected though that Wesley Snipes will return on his own accord.
