Pop star Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie are reported in today’s newspaper as being in the final stages of adopting a 13 month old baby boy from Malawi. The baby boy, David Banda, lost his mother a week after she gave birth to him.

His father Yohanna admitted that although he was extremely sad to lose his son, he believes that this was the best opportunity for the boy, particularly as Yohanna had to place his son in an orphanage as there was no one to look after him when we worked on his farm.

David Banda was placed at the Home for Hope Orphanage about 50 miles from his birthplace of Lipunga close to the Malawian border with Zambia. Madonna and her husband were reported to have stayed at the Kumbali Country Lodge in Lilongwe with David as they got acquainted.

If adopted David will be a sibling to Rocco, Guy and Madonna’s child and Lourdes Madonna’s child from a previous relationship. However Madonna’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, had said in a statement last week that Madonna was in Malawi on a private visit working on projects for children. She dismissed statements from Malawian government officials that Madonna and her husband, film director Guy Ritchie, planned to adopt a boy.
