R&B sensation Beyonce Knowles wowed the crowd in Lagos in the recently held Annual ThisDay Music Festival. The event attended by the high echelon of the Nigerian society, including governors and senators were treated to renditions of the pop diva’s songs.

However the crowd was sent into frenzy when Beyonce gave her own version of the Nigerian National Anthem. Reports being monitored in Lagos say that some of the eminent statesmen present were moved to tears.

The music festival was a two day event, with Beyonce headlining on the first day and her boyfriend, hip hop superstar Jay Z stealing the show on the next day. He performed some of his hits to an excited crowd, and a large screen behind him intermittently displaying the Nigerian green and white colours.

They both shared the stage with other US artists, including Snoop Dog, Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, Envogue and Ciara. However some of the biggest cheers were also reserved for local artists like King Sunny Ade, Majek Fashesk, D. Banj and Tuface whose popular tunes were thrilled the audience.

Other local artists on display were the son of the music icon, Seun Anikulapo-Kuti, Asha, Dare Art-Alade, and Nigeria’s best selling female hip hop artist Weird MC.
