African Artist Akon makes history on the Billboard Charts

Akon makes history as his new single, “Smack That” becomes the fastest moving single in the history of the American billboard charts.....

Multi-platinum R&B recording star, producer and songwriter from Senegal, Akon, recently make history when his new single “Smack That” featuring Hip Hop’s Eminem moved form the #95 spot to #7 in the space of one week in the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. This makes the single of the biggest mover since the charts were started. The song is also in the top ten of the fastest movers in the Billboard’s Top 40 Radio and its video for the song is based on the hit movie 48 Hours by Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.

“Smack That” is one of the two lead singles from Akon’s forthcoming sophomore album, Konvicted, the other being a collaboration with another of Hip Hop’s established stars Snoop Dogg and is titled “I Wanna Love You”. The new album due for release on November 21, 2006, also features Styles P. and T-Pain. Konvicted is a follow up is the Akon’s debut album, “Trouble” which was a great success internationally and featured multi-format smash hit singles “Locked Up” and “Lonely”.

Besides working on his album, Akon has been setting up his own record label call ed Konlive. The label deal for Konlive was secured after talks with Interscope Records and would also feature alongside new and upcoming artists, Chilli from the super girl group TLC.
